Dreaming of Culottes

I am very late to the bandwagon but I’m living the dream in these black culottes. The important advantages of sporting these super wide-leg cropped pants:

1. Elastic waistband for all-you-can-eat buffets.

2. Crepe-like material that does not wrinkle for people that hate ironing.

3. Keeps you easy, breezy, beautiful. Perfect for summer.

Some other ones I have my eye on…

Scored this coat at 50% off the sale price at forever21.com last week. It’s not a very practical coat, which is probably why it’s not sold out yet, but it’s definitely a show-stopper. It was one of those “I didn’t know I wanted it but now that I see it I need it” kind of purchases. The AW x HM boots finally make an appearance on here. These boots were everything I wished for, all black, 100% leather, rubber sole, and zip detail. I wore this to see Birdman yesterday after watching the Golden Globes and hearing all the Oscar hype surrounding the film. The film is described as a dark comedy about an actor — famous for portraying a superhero — struggling with his now stagnant career. I really enjoyed it, there was a mix of drama, comedy, and action, and the characters were very relatable. I highly recommend seeing it while it’s still in theatres. I’ll leave you with this trailer.

Last week, a few friends and I went to Snakes and Lagers to relax and get our game on. If you have heard of Snakes and Lattes, it’s a similar concept except it’s a bar where you can play board games and grab a drink, the perfect pairing.

I felt like wearing my new Topshop top made of a neoprene-esque material that day. I’ve been lusting after a structured white top and this fulfilled all my *structured* and *minimalist* desires. I really like the classic t-shirt and pants look for a casual evening out. And the heels totally speak for themselves.

cheap thrills

You know that feeling when you are just browsing a random store, and there’s an amazing deal that you just can’t pass up? Yeah, that happened to me at every store I went to. When I went back home a couple of weeks ago, my friend and I decided to go thrifting. After 20 minutes of rummaging through the wracks, I stumbled upon this 100% leather “made in Britain” cross body purse. It was everything I wanted and for a measly $4, I snatched it right up.

One of my favourite new items is the crisp white crop top from Garage. I love the unique crossover cut of the top which can be paired with every high waisted bottom ever. It’s still on sale for $6 on the website so ch-ch-check it out.

And Forever 21 had a buy one get one on their sale items, so who can resist that?

uniform no. 5: teen angst

Teen angst… or young adult angst? I didn’t intend on looking so angry/worried/emo but I guess that’s what happens when you wear plaid, mesh, and leather. I’ve had this plaid chiffon dress for a couple of years but I didn’t wear it until I hacked off the bottom two ruffles because short people problems. Now it’s a cool midi length dress that can be worn with platform sneakers, heels, or flats.

This weekend I attended Hot Docs, an annual international documentary film festival that takes place in Toronto. I enjoy the occasional documentary on Documentary Heaven or the Passionate Eye but I was blown away by the ones I saw at the festival this year. If you are interested, I saw The Overnighters, Return to Homs, Lady Valour, and Rich Hill. It was quite eye-opening to see people living in situations that were different from my own but I could still relate to the struggles and joys they felt on their journey (aka I shed many tears during all of them). For the summer, I have my eye on a new release at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, Web Junkie, which is about the internet addiction as a clinical disorder in China.

Apologies on the blog neglect that’s been happening the past couple of weeks, I went back home for a while and I didn’t find an appropriate setting for my blog photos so I didn’t end up blogging. Hope you are all well   🙂 x
