Yours truly turned 24 this past Monday! I decided to celebrate by going to an indoor botanical garden, Allan Gardens. It’s clearly still the dead of winter so this was a nice change of scenery. Definitely will return when I want to zen out again with some plants. Bonus: there were also turtles.
What do you do to escape the winter cold? Let me know in the comments 🙂
While scouring the library for an adequate study space (note: one with an outlet) the other day, I got a nostalgic vibe from walking down the aisles and aisles of books. It reminded me of the cult high school tv show, Freaks and Geeks. I binge watched the first season of it on Netflix a couple of months ago… how else does one watch tv shows on Netflix? Then realized that the show was cancelled after one season. *Crying emoji*. It is actually the perfect mix of funny/serious and so relatable to anyone who is trying to figure out school/life/themselves.
In other news, I finally found the perfect basic white tee from the Gap. The requirements of a perfect white tee include thin(but not see-through) fabric and fabric that drapes nicely, but mainly I just want a loose fit tee that doesn’t look like a tunic dress on me. #shortpplprobz. I also snagged this plaid button-up shirt while at the Gap since it looks like something someone’s dad would wear in the 80s. (jk sorta)
If you have any 80s/90s/00s tv recommendations, let me know because I’m still depressed over Freaks and Geeks ending.
Some (all) people would call me a shoe-aholic. But I’m trying to live that minimalist life right now so I haven’t purchased shoes in a couple(lol) months. When Capezio shoes contacted me to tell me that I won their MTV Fora giveaway, I was literally astounded. Girls/guys, that’s 6 pairs of new shoes. Not to mention, I ordered 2 pairs of sandals the previous night so 8. pairs. of. new. shoes. These Shellys London sneaker heels were one of the prizes and they are seriously glowing right now. So amaze. Wow. I have to thank the shoe gods, Capezio Shoes and MTV Fora for making my shoe dreams come true!
And yes, hair is shorter. I love the asymmetrical one-length cut that my hair stylist from the Aveda hair school did. I’m still figuring out how I should style it but I’m probably the laziest person with my hair so airdrying4ever.

I have an obsession with tops that have a lot of holes in them. I currently own 4 mesh tops…and I have no regrets. They spice up any old outfit and adds some interest to the look. I especially love this black mesh top because of the simple t-shirt cut and the beautiful crochet detailing at the front. It can be dressed up with a skirt or dressed down with jeans or leggings or *jeggings* as I have done. I can’t seem to find a similar black mesh top to mine online but Nasty Gal carries a white version that is just as cool.
Teen angst… or young adult angst? I didn’t intend on looking so angry/worried/emo but I guess that’s what happens when you wear plaid, mesh, and leather. I’ve had this plaid chiffon dress for a couple of years but I didn’t wear it until I hacked off the bottom two ruffles because short people problems. Now it’s a cool midi length dress that can be worn with platform sneakers, heels, or flats.
This weekend I attended Hot Docs, an annual international documentary film festival that takes place in Toronto. I enjoy the occasional documentary on Documentary Heaven or the Passionate Eye but I was blown away by the ones I saw at the festival this year. If you are interested, I saw The Overnighters, Return to Homs, Lady Valour, and Rich Hill. It was quite eye-opening to see people living in situations that were different from my own but I could still relate to the struggles and joys they felt on their journey (aka I shed many tears during all of them). For the summer, I have my eye on a new release at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, Web Junkie, which is about the internet addiction as a clinical disorder in China.
Apologies on the blog neglect that’s been happening the past couple of weeks, I went back home for a while and I didn’t find an appropriate setting for my blog photos so I didn’t end up blogging. Hope you are all well 🙂 x
Since it’s getting a bit warmer in Toronto, (although it snowed yesterday so who knows what the hell is going on), I thought it was time to break out my faux leather jacket again. I got it on sale at H&M two and a half years ago and it’s still going strong! I really love the asymmetrical zipper and the stitching detail on the shoulder and elbows. I’ve also been eyeing up white leather jackets (here & here) because they look very crisp and clean but still edgy.
I decided to tie my flannel around my waist because >> Zoe Kravitz <<. Purple hair, slouchy tops, vintage ray bans…what more do you need?
Recently, her style has become more structured and tailored but it still has a badass rocker vibe. She’s definitely one of my style inspirations because she always looks effortlessly cool. I saw her in Divergent and was pleasantly surprised at how well she portrayed the character, Christina. Teen movies and novels are a guilty pleasure, but if you enjoyed the Hunger Games, you might also enjoy Divergent.
P.S. Is it still considered part of the Uniforms segment if the repeat piece is the hidden camisole I wore underneath my sweater in the last post? Let’s just go with it.
Oh, the beloved docs. I coveted Dr. Martens boots for ages, ever since I saw them on my #1 favourite 90’s MTV show, Daria. When Christmas rolled around last year, Santa (aka my significant other) graced me with these beauties. I had a hard time narrowing down my choices since there is such a wide selection of styles. From the classic 1460’s to the grungy Jadon’s, I was at a loss of which pair to choose until I laid eyes on the Casey’s with the 2 inch heel — I was sold. Coolness factor = 10, height factor = 11. There’s also another heeled boot style called Clemency that’s also super kewlz.
I highly recommend Daria if you think cynical/sarcastic/pessimistic humour is funny and if you loved/hated high school. This pretty much sums up the series.
(Watch my other fav character from the show: ~Tiffany~)
